Bangladesh women national team thumped their USA counterparts by eight wickets on Sunday in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup Qualifiers at Arbroath in Scotland, report agencies.

Bangladesh’s first match against Papua New Guinea was postponed to Monday because rain halted the game on the scheduled day on Saturday.

USA women won the toss and opted to bat first. But they failed to impress with the bat, as they were restricted for only 46 runs all-out in 19.1 overs.

India-born American Sugetha Chandhrasekar was the only batter of the USA team to reach a two-digit score. She added 15 runs while the other batters failed to add more than 8.

For Bangladesh, Nahida Akter bagged three wickets conceding 12 runs while Jahanara Alam and Khadija Tul Kubra took two wickets each.

In reply, Bangladesh chased the target of 47 in 8.2 overs with eight wickets in hand and 70 balls to spare (48.2).

In the end, Nahida Akter won the man of the match award for her three-wicket haul.

A total of eight teams are fighting in the qualifying tournament along with Bangladesh and hosts Scotland. The winners of the two semifinals will book a place in the main event in Australia next year.

Bangladesh are playing in Group A along with Papua New Guinea, Scotland and the USA while Group B consists of Ireland, Thailand, Namibia, and the Netherlands.
