Riding on ascintillating bowling performance with Fahima Khatun and later on a Salama Khatun’s 38 runs, Bangladesh national women cricket team warmed up well ahead of the their first ODI to take place tomorrow when they defeated host Sri Lanka President XI by 27 runs on Thursday.
Held at Colombo Stadium, Sri Lanka Women after electing to field first bundled out their Bangladesh counterparts for a paltry 116 runs by 38.1 overs in a 50-over match.But chasing to a moderate target could manage to score only 89 runs before being bowled out against the disciplined bowling attacks of the visitors.
Bangladesh Women’s team, who were sent to bat first, saw an early blow after losing two wickets for five runs by 1.4 overs, continued the debacle after being reduced to five for 30 runs and could not halt the damage when they were nine down for 68 runs.
Only ninth wicket pair of Salma Khatun and Jahanra Alam played a significant role to cross the 100 runs when the stand scored 48 runs to make Bangladesh total 116 runs before being all-out.
Salma Khatun, who batted at number nine was the highest scorer with 32 runs off 60 balls, featured her innings with two fours and a six when Ritu Moni and Jahanara Alam were the other two notable contributors scoring 17 and 16 runs respectively and 15 runs came from Extras.
Sri Lanka President XI, despite making a bit impressive start with scoring 22 runs in the first wickets stand, could not continue the momentum, as Bangladesh bowlers strongly bounced back with Disha Biswas making the first breakthrough taking opener Nethmi Senaratha for 4.
After losing the first wicket the Sri Lankan team lost their wickets in a regular interval when their innings was ended on 89 runs. UmashaThimeshaniwas the highest scorer for Sri Lanka President XI with 24 runs.
Fahima Khatun was the most devastating among the Bangladesh’s bowlers with claiming four wickets for 22 runs in 7.4 overs when Disha Biswas and Nahida Akter joined the celebration with taking two wickets each. Nahida Akter was the most economy bowler when she conceded only 18 runs in her 10 overs spell.
