Bangladesh will have a stall at the world-famous Cannes Film Festival from next year, said Dr Hasan Mahmud, the visiting Information Minister and joint general secretary of the Awami League.

He made the remarks on Sunday in response to a question from reporters at the Cannes festival. Earlier on Thursday, Hasan Mahmud jointly inaugurated the trailer of the movie 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation' with Indian Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Tagore at the festival.

The Minister said that this time at Cannes Festival we have come to inaugurate the trailer of Bangabandhu's biopic 'Mujib: Rupkar of a Nation'. We are planning to have a stall in Bangladesh next year at the festival's cinema market 'Marshe Du Filme'. Mentioning that the country's film industry has turned around due to the dedication of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the joint efforts of all, Hasan Mahmud said, "Our goal is to make Bengali cinema take its place in the international arena as well." We are moving forward with that goal and that is why we will be participating in other film festivals around the world, including Cannes.

Regarding the various initiatives taken by the government to take the film industry forward, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said, "We give grants to talented producers in our country for short films, full-length feature or art films. The minister is scheduled to return home on Tuesday.
