Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates have discussed the ‘key issues’ in the bilateral relations including the opening of the labour market.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam told Bangladesh Post that he met his UAE counterpart in Dubai on his way back to Dhaka from Madrid on Thursday.
Alam also twitted a photo of the meeting. He said he had a “very good” meeting with his UAE counterpart Anwar Mohammed Gargash and discussed key issues of bilateral interest.
“We also discussed issues that impacts both of our region in Muslim ummah,” he said. They talked on Rohingya issue and also more scopes of migrant workers. Shahriar also discussed about the land for proposed embassy building in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier in November, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan gave the hint to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a meeting on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow at the Dubai World Central (DWC) that the labour market would be reopened soon.
The UAE stopped taking Bangladeshi workers for the last five years. “You (Sheikh Hasina) will not ask the same question when you’ll visit the UAE next time,” Sheikh Mohammed said when Sheikh Hasina raised the manpower export issue at the meeting.
