Bangladesh, Turkey vow to take ties to new height

Bangladesh and Turkey on Wednesday discussed new initiatives and promised to work together to take the relations to a new height.

The issues related to bilateral relations were discussed when visiting Bangladesh foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the foreign ministry said.

The meeting took place in a “warm and cordial” atmosphere. Both of them have stressed on new efforts to expand trade and businesses between the countries.

They expressed “satisfaction” at the current level of friendly relations.

The ongoing education, culture and military cooperation between the countries are ‘strong’, they viewed.

President Erdoğan also proposed to build a modern hospital in Dhaka and sought a piece of land in this regard.

He accepted the invitation to join the D-8 summit at the end of the next year to be held in Dhaka. He is the chair of the eight developing countries grouping.

He suggested expanding the D-8 by taking new members.

The President also highly appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for providing shelter to Rohingya people in Cox's Bazar district. He assured of Turkish support to Bangladesh in all forums to resolve the crisis.

Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.1 million Rohingyas.

Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu was also present at the meeting, the foreign ministry said.
