Bangladesh to get 7 crore Covid vaccines from Covax this year

Bangladesh will get nearly seven crore Covid-19 vaccines from Covax facility under the supervision of World Health Organization (WHO) by this year.

“Bangladesh will get nearly seven crore vaccines from Covax facility by 2021… as part of COVAX scheme, we will get 1.9 crore vaccines by May,” Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora told BSS today.

She said 20 lakh out of 1.9 crore vaccine under Covax facility may arrive in Bangladesh this month while remaining vaccine will reach the country in phases. According to announcement of the Covax scheme on Tuesday, the five biggest confirmed recipients are Pakistan (14,640,000 doses), Nigeria (13,656,000), Indonesia (11,704,800), Bangladesh (10,908,000) and Brazil (9,122,400).
