‘Bangladesh tackles pandemic better than other countries’

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said that tackling Covid-19 was a great achievement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Due to her leadership, the corona situation in Bangladesh has come under control faster than other countries.

He made the comment while speaking as the chief guest at the Naogaon Deputy Commissioner's Conference Room on Sunday at a function distribute welfare grants and financial assistance checks to journalists.

The food minister said that in many countries of the world, the common man had to buy the vaccine for Covid-19. However, our PM made sure it was free for the people. 

“At present the Covid-19 situation in under control. It has been possible due to the cooperation of journalists, administration, politicians, businessmen and people from all walks of life,” he said.

The minister said that during the pandemic, there was no sector in Bangladesh where the cooperation of the government had not reached. The PM has continued to provide financial assistance to all journalists in the country. No other government has been as kind to journalists as the current government.

The food minister further said thast some people expressed concerns that at least 200,000 people would die of starvation in this situation. However, not a single person in the country has died of starvation due to the government’s plan and humanity. 

“At that time, the country had a stock of 1.8 million metric tons of food. Journalists must fulfill their professional responsibilities responsibly following the ideals of journalism,” he said.

Naogaon District Press Club President and BSS District Representative Kayes Uddin and journalists Mir Mosharraf Hossain Jewel and Obaidul Haque spoke on the occasion presided over by Deputy Commissioner Khalid Mehedi Hasan. Later, 19 journalists of the district were given Tk 10,000 and a cheque was given to one journalist. A total of Tk 2.9 lakh was distributed.
