Bangladesh surpasses 13,000 Covid-19 deaths


Bangladesh registered 43 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Friday, crossing the 13,000 mark. The total number of deaths has reached 13,032 with the latest figure.

The country recorded 2,454 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 822,849, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday. 

The death rate now stands at 1.58 percent in the country, added the release. 

The number of fatalities has increased slightly while the number of infected has declined compared to a day earlier. The country recorded 40 deaths and 2,576 infections on Thursday. 

The current positivity rate stands at 13.24 percent and the total positivity rate stands at 13.39 percent. 

Among the 43 deceased, 30 were men, and 13 were women. Of the victims, 42 died in different hospitals across the country while one died at home.  

Of the deceased, 11 were from Rajshahi division, 10 from Chattogram, eight from Dhaka, seven from Khulna, four from Rangpur, two from Barishal and one from Mymensingh division.

A total of 18,535 samples were tested across the country till 8am Friday. 

At least 2,286 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period. The total number of recoveries now stands at 7,61,916 and the recovery rate at 92.59 percent.  

As of Friday, 3,789,940 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 175,658,157 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
