Bangladesh National Parliament has adopted a resolution in favour of Palestine, supporting the Palestinian bid for establishing an independent-sovereign state and calling for an end to brutal genocide carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people.
The Jatiya Sangsad (JS), the parliament of Bangladesh, adopted the pro-Palestinian resolution unanimously in the 25th session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Monday (October 30, 2023). The resolution condemned the ongoing genocide in Palestine carried out by Israel and called for standing by Palestine.
The resolution says, “The Bangladesh National Parliament strongly condemns the brutal genocide carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people and strongly demands an end to this barbaric
killing. Israel’s infernal killing in Palestine has caused an extreme disaster of human rights. This Parliament calls on all the conscientious people, states and organisations of the world to come forward to protect human rights in Palestine and calls upon the Muslim Ummah to come forward effectively to protect the Palestinian people and establish their just demand-- independent and sovereign state.”
The 25th session of the 11th Parliament began on October 22 and at the beginning day of the current session, the Jatiya Sangsad adopted a condolence motion at the massacre and death of Palestinian people by Israeli brutal invasion. JS Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury had placed the motion which was adopted unanimously.
The session resumed at 4.09 pm on October 23 with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. The day’s proceedings began with ministerial question-and-answer session. Later, important notices under section 71 of the rules of procedure were received, reports of different parliamentary standing committees on various bills were presented and legislative functions took place in the House.
After that a general discussion was held in the Parliament on the brutality of Israeli forces on the Palestine citizens. The general discussion took place on a motion (ordinary) of adopting a resolution in this regard.
Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Member of the Parliament (MP) from Dinajpur-4 constituency who is also a former foreign minister; placed the motion (ordinary) under Rule 147 of the Rules of Procedure of the Bangladesh National Parliament.
Earlier on October 23, Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandary, MP from Chattogram-2 constituency, sought floor on a point of order to speak on the Palestine issue. In reply, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury had said that a day will be fixed to hold detailed general discussion on the issue under Rule 147.
Rule 147 of the Rules of Procedure of the Bangladesh National Parliament deals with any matter of public interest. A Member of Parliament brings a motion (ordinary) in this regard in the Parliament. Interested MPs discuss the proposal. Parliament later accepted it. Palestine issue was discussed in general in this rule in the Bangladesh National Parliament.
Many treasury and opposition bench lawmakers took part in Monday’s general discussion in the House on Palestine issue.
