Sweet fragrance of Bangladeshi mangoes has reached Europe - opening a new chapter in the country’s export history.
It comes at a time when the whole world is grappling with the pandemic.
According to the ministry of foreign affairs, popular variety Amropali Mangoes are now available in the Swiss supermarkets - thanks to Bangladesh Permanent Mission in Geneva for taking this initiative.
On July 14, first consignment was exported to Switzerland.

Switzerland, the noted diplomatic hub, having a population of 3.5 million, can be a potential destination to Bangladeshi mangoes in the future, the foreign ministry said.
State Minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam in his facebook post said on Monday they sent the second shipment to Italy’s Milan.
“Inshallah this week we’ll send mangoes to the UK and Austria,” Alam, an MP from the Rajshahi constituency which is famous for mangoes, said.
The North Bengal Agro Farm is sending the mangos.
The state minister said this export would remain continued till mid-August if everything goes well.
“We will set a target in 2021 taking the experiences of this year. We have set the target of 100 tonnes this year, but it is not possible right now,” he said.
“But next year Rajshahi will have its own or official fruit quarantine and processing center that everyone can use,” he said, adding that “I hope a new chapter will begin”.
Bangladesh is famous for growing a variety of mangoes. Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Nawabganj, and Dinajpur are the main regions of this seasonal fruit.
Fazlee, Langda, Gopalbogh, Himsagar, Khirsapat, Ashhwina, Khisanbogh, Kuapahadi, Lata Bombai, Foria, Bombai, Kohitoor, Laksmanbhog, Mohanbhog, and Misribhog are some of the varieties, apart Amropali.
