Bangladesh seeks donors’ support to face graduation challenges

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Wednesday urged the friendly states and development partners to continue their support to Bangladesh in facing the possible  challenges ahead of graduating towards a developing nation from LDC status. 

Minister made the remarks while exchanging views separately with South Korean Ambassador Park Young Sik, Sweden Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde and Switzerland Ambassador Reto Renggli at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat. 

"The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has shown positive attitudes to continue duty free quota facilities for more three years after 2026 and Bangladesh has been working to build its own capacity within this time frame", Minister added. 

He mentioned that Bangladesh is now most attractive destination for investment in consideration of the geographical location. The government has been providing all sorts of cooperation to the investors. One Stop Service (OSS) has been launched to provide necessary support to them and already FDI has started coming at the special economic zones. 

Minister urged the governments of the respective states through the Ambassadors to invest in Bangladesh. 

South Korean Ambassador has urged the Commerce Minister to take all necessary measures to further expansion of the bi-lateral trades.     

Expressing her interest to invest in the Power and Renewable Energy sectors of Bangladesh, the Ambassador of Sweden, Alexandra Berg von Linde said many countries are now laying emphasize on renewable energy sector. 

"Sweden government is interested to cooperate Bangladesh in this regard", she added.   Switzerland Ambassador Reto Renggli praised the development works, done under the present government.  The envoy expressed his interest to stand by Bangladesh in product diversification and also as a development partner as always.
