Bangladesh’s export to Philippines, an important market in Southeast Asia, has been growing steadily over the years showing a positive signal, sources said.

During the last 26 years, the exports of Bangladesh to the Philippines have increased at an annualized rate of 9.02%, from $8.09M in 1995 to $76.5M in 2021.

A director of the Philippine-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PBCCI) while talking to the correspondent said “As Bangladesh has become a member of the mid-income group countries recently and holds a strategic position in the region, businessmen of Bangladesh and the Philippines are working to explore new businesses.”

Philippine Ambassador in Dhaka Leo Tito Ausan, Jr said in a message marking his 125th National day said “ As Bangladesh optimistically transitions to the status of a middle-income country, the Philippines draws inspiration from the unwavering patriotism and pride of the Bangladeshi people. These qualities serve as an inexhaustible source of strength, propelling the Philippines towards growth and prosperity. While both nations face ongoing challenges that test the progress achieved and the hard-won liberties of their people, they can take solace in their historic triumphs against oppression and injustice. ”

Dhaka and Manila enjoy warm relations in multilateral sectors that are expected to reach a new height in the coming days, said Leo Tito Ausan, Jr

The theme chosen for this year's Independence Day commemoration, "Kalayaan.Kinabukasan.Kasaysayan" or "Freedom.Future.History," aptly depicts the hard-won victory of our ancestors and their unwavering struggle to ensure that future generations do not endure the same hardships they faced.

Meanwhile, Philippine Embassy in Bangladesh on Friday organized the “Adorn-a-Rickshaw” contest marking the 125th Independence day celebration of the Southeast Asian country.

They also organised a food fair to mark the day.

The philippine community of Bangladesh competed among themselves for decorating rickshaws according to their three biggest festival theme. The rickshaws were then featured in the Kalayaan (independence) parade, led by Philippine Ambassador Leo Tito L Ausan Jr. More than 100 people took part in the parade at the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone in Dhaka. Ambassador Leo Tito L Ausan Jr dreams of Bangladesh holding a Rickshaw festival someday where millions of tourists will visit Bangladesh to join the event.
