Bangladesh on Saturday reported 134 deaths in past 24 hours, the second highest single-day toll since the pandemic’s outbreak while the government has imposed a seven-day lockdown that began from July 1 to contain transmission of the virus.
“The pandemic claimed 134 lives in the past 24 hours when 6,214 new infection cases have been recorded,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.
The official tally showed the virus killed 14,912 people and infected 9,36,256 so far while the second highest single-day infection rate was 27.39 percent today (July 3).
The country recorded 143 COVID- deaths on July 1 this year, the highest in a day, while it registered 8,822 cases, single-day high since the virus was detected first on March 8 last year, on June 30 in the current year.
The recovery count rose to 8,29,199 after another 3,777 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.
The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 88.57 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.
