The 16th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the country’s top-flight competition, will kick off on December 22.

A total of 10 teams will take part in the upcoming league. The defending champions, Bashundhara Kings, have won a record four consecutive titles.

It’s mandatory for every team in professional football to have their own home grounds. In this context, eight teams managed their respective home venues, except traditional club Mohammedan Sporting Club (MSC) and the Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union (BU), these clubs are yet to manage their venues.

Brothers Union returned to the top flight after an absence of two years when Muktijoddha Sangsad KC and AFC Uttara, who were relegated to the Bangladesh Championship League after respective spells of sixteen years and one year in the top flight.

Muktijoddha suffered relegation for the first time since the inception of the Premier League in 2007.

Meanwhile, the season's first tournament, the Independence Cup is yet to be completed.

The title holders, Kings, will take on Chittagong Abahani in Group D at the Bashundhara Kings Arena Stadium on December 1. The group encounters will be completed on that day.

Meanwhile, the national football team is now in Melbourne to participate in the second round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches.

The men in red and green will play their first outings at AAMI Park Stadium against the 27th ranking of FIFA Australia.

The Socceroos reached the last 16 in the Qatar World Cup 2022.

The Independence Cup will run within the BPL. The Federation Cup will begin after the Independence Cup.

The professional Football League Committee of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) is now very busy regarding BPL.

The matches played in BPL venues last season will also be used this year, except at Bhasha Shoinik Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla. It was the home venue for the Black and Whites in the last season.

It has been discussed for a few days in the football arena where MSC will play in the BPL.

The club tried to home ground Noakhali, Tangail, and Madaripur Stadium. At last, they informed BFF to wish Tangail Stadium for their home venue.

But the problem is that in this stadium, there is also a cricket pitch. If the pitch is not abandoned, can MSC use this ground? It depends on BFF.

The Gopibagh outfit has no home ground. BU has not confirmed the venue until now. They want to use Sheikh Jamal Stadium, Faridpur, in the BPL.

The football governing body will visit Tangail and Faridpur Stadium, and then a decision will be taken.

The home venues of the eight teams are finalized. Bashundhara Kings Arena Stadium is the home venue for Bashundhara Kings and Sheikh Russell KC. Goplaganj Stadium is for Abahani and Sheikh Jamal DC, Bangladesh Police FC will play in Mymensingh Stadium, Chittagong Abahani and Rahmatganj MFS in Munshiganj, and Fortis FC’s home venue is in Rajshahi Stadium.
