Bangladesh’s hope of play to the final of the SAFF U-15 Championship vanished into blue as they suffered a 4-0 goal thrashing to host India in their last match held on Thursday at Kalyani Stadium in West Bengal, report BSS.
Bangladesh desperately needed a big victory against India in their do or die match needed to improve their goal difference as earlier in the day.
Earlier in the day, Nepal thrashed Bhutan by 5-0 goals to move to the second position of the points table, but despite their intentions Bangladesh boys failed miserably to go down to India in a dismal manner.
With the day’s win, India emerged group top with 12 points from four matches while Bangladesh placed at third
position in the points table with their previous credit of six points playing the same number of outings.
In the day’s match, Jangra scored hat-trick with three goals in the 29th, 74th and 79th minute for the hosts while Paul sealed the victory for India in the 89th minute of the match.
Following an impressive wins against Bhutan and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh put in a below-par performance against Nepal by losing the match 4-1 goals.
Earlier in the day’s first match, Nepal U-15 team thrashed Bhutan U-15 5-0 to collect nine points from four matches.
They are now positioned at 2nd in the point table and will play the final against India on Saturday (August 31).
Skipper Pradip Lamsal scored a brace in the 5th and 48th minute while and Nirajan Khatri scored brace each while Asim Rai and Kris Sapkota scored one goal apiece in the 9th, 75th and 85th minutes respectively for Nepal.
Earlier, Bangladesh got off to an auspicious start as they blew away Bhutan by 5-2 goals in their opening match and dumped
Sri Lanka by 7-1 goals in their second match.
Five of the South Asian countries are taking part in the regional championship. The five participating teams — defending champions Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka — are playing in the round-robin format from where the top two teams will advance to the final.
