Bangladesh has approved China's Sinopharm vaccine for Covid-19 for emergency use.
Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) Major General Mahbubur Rahman on Thursday announced at a press conference that their expert panel took the decision after reviewing the clinical trial documents.
“We have seen the review and phase 1, phase 2 reports of our technical committee and authorised its emergency use,” he said, adding that the vaccine would be bought on a government to government basis.
This is the third vaccine Bangladesh has approved in Bangladesh after OxfordAstraZeneca, and Russian Sputnik V.
The drug director general said after getting the Sinopharm’s vaccine, the health directorate would vaccinate 1,000 people in the beginning and observe the effect.
After observation, the mass vaccination will begin, he said. It’s a two doses vaccine with the second shot being administered after 28 days.
He said talks are also underway to produce the Sinopharm vaccine in Bangladesh.
India also proposed to co-produce Bharat Biotech's Covaxin which is as efficacious as Oxford's Covishield.
