The Bangladesh Navy has detained 34 Indian fishermen along with two fishing trawlers for allegedly entering Bangladesh's maritime territory and fishing illegally in the Bay of Bengal.

The vessels—FB Jhor and FB Mangal Chandi-38—were intercepted late Monday near the Fairway Buoy area in the deep sea, according to authorities. A significant quantity of sea fish was also recovered from the trawlers during the operation.

Officials said the detained fishermen have been brought to Mongla for legal proceedings.

Zahidul Islam, Mongla Upazila Fisheries Officer, confirmed that the Indian trawlers had crossed into Bangladeshi waters to engage in fishing. The Navy detected the trawlers during a routine patrol using radar systems.

"When the fishermen sensed the presence of Navy patrols, they attempted to escape but were eventually captured," he said.

Md Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station, stated that legal procedures are currently underway regarding the incident.
