The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Information and Communication Technology Division (ICT Division) under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology (MOPTIT) of Bangladesh, and the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday announced the signing of the Record of Discussion (RD) for the project "Fostering Innovative Technology Experts with a Focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Bangladesh," widely known as the AI-Hub Project.
The signing formalizes a landmark grant aid initiative valued at USD 13 million, extended by the Government of the Republic of Korea through KOICA, and marks a major milestone toward establishing a state-of-the-art AI-Hub Center at Software Technology Park-2 (STP-2) in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka.
The Project will be implemented by the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority (BHTPA) under the ICT Division/MOPTIT, in close partnership with KOICA and ERD, and is scheduled to run from 2026 to 2029.
The signing ceremony was held in Dhaka and attended by senior representatives of the signatory institutions, along with officials from the ICT Division, ERD, and BHTPA.
The event followed a series of in-depth discussions between the Government of the Republic of Korea and the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, and represents a key step in translating the two countries' shared commitment to technology-driven development into concrete action.
The AI-Hub Project will renovate existing floors at Software Technology Park-2 to create a dedicated center for AI education, applied research, and industry collaboration.
Once operational, the AI-Hub Center is expected to serve as a national platform for advanced digital skills training, faculty and instructor development, and stronger linkages between academia, industry, and government in Bangladesh's growing technology sector.
“This Record of Discussion reflects a shared vision between the Republic of Korea and Bangladesh - to invest in people, in skills, and in the next generation of Bangladeshi technology leaders. We look forward to working closely with our Bangladeshi partners to bring the AI-Hub Center to life,” said the Country Director, KOICA Bangladesh.
“The AI-Hub Center will be a cornerstone for building AI capacity in Bangladesh, connecting our universities, industry, and government around a common goal: preparing our workforce for the future of technology.
