Planning Minister MA Mannan said in the context of the ongoing Union Parishad elections that it is a matter of political practice. The main practice in politics is to participate in elections. No one in the world has yet discovered an alternative to elections. No one can say no to the election.
Addressing the BNP, the minister said, "By boycotting the elections, they are participating in the elections anonymously. What kind of scandal is this?"
The minister made this assertion while speaking as the chief guest at the ceremony for the beautification work across in Moulvibazar Municipality on Friday morning.
During his speech, he further said that this Bangladesh is a country of harmony among people from all religion. This Bangladesh is not only a country with bridges and other infrastructures; this is a country with numerus mosques, temples, churches, pagodas. This is the foundation of the constitution that people of all religion live in harmony.
In the programme, presided over by Moulvibazar Municipal Mayor Fazlur Rahman, special guests were District Awami League President MP Neshar Ahmed, District Council Chairman and District Awami League General Secretary Misbahur Rahman, Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zakaria.
The work, which cost around Tk 11 crore, includes walkways, landscaping, roads and beautification. The project is expected to be completed in June 2022.
According to the municipal authorities, work has been started on road, children's park, walkway and beautification project on the banks of Manu river in Shantibagh area of Moulvibazar town. In this project, 800 meters RCC paved road will be constructed from Chandnighat Manu Bridge to Post Office.
There will be footpaths on both sides of the road. To enhance the beauty of Manu River bank, flowers and various species of local trees will be planted and there will be an open stage.
Moulvibazar Municipal Mayor Fazlur Rahman said that in this project, there is a plan for an alternative road for small vehicles to serve public interest. There will be a separate car parking. There will be walkways so that health conscious people can walk safely.
Different varieties of trees including flowers will be planted to enhance the beauty. If the project is implemented, the beauty of the city will increase. In the same way, people can spend some time sitting on the river bank and chatting. In addition, tourists can actually enjoy the afternoon and evening.
