Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said, Bangladesh was the 60th economy country during the formation of our government in 2009, in the last 14 years it has become the 35th economy country. Bangladesh has changed and is changing under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu.
Singapore and Malaysia are smaller economies than ours in terms of GDP, not to mention Pakistan, and according to some surveys Bangladesh's position is 31st in PPP, he said, 'If Bangabandhu had not been killed in 1975, if the economic growth of more than 9 and a half percent would have continued, then South Korea , Malaysia, even before Singapore, the people of the world heard the story of changing Bangladesh.
He said all this at the opening ceremony of the three-day Bangabandhu Film Festival 2023 organized by the Bangladesh Film Journalists Association (Bachsas) on the occasion of Bangabandhu's homecoming day at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation's Zahir Raihan Hall in Tezgaon in the capital on Monday afternoon. It should be noted that according to the statistics of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bangladesh has come up to the 35th place in the recent 'The Top Heavy Global Economy' list.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister said, "Today, I do not see the praise that the country's media should receive on this news." If Bangladesh lags behind in any index, it is promoted in the media, but as per the GDP calculation according to the size of the economy, when we have progressed, it needs to be promoted as well.'
Highlighting the outstanding achievements of last year, Dr Hasan Mahmud said, '2022 has been a sad time for the world. The war in Ukraine started last year and in some countries the corona epidemic has reared its head again. In that situation, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Padma Bridge with his own money, and the metro rail journey has started in Dhaka.
Citing the exuberant appreciation of the country in the foreign media, the information and broadcasting minister said, 'Anandabazar newspaper of Kolkata wrote in a feature after the metro rail started in Dhaka - Although the metro rail of Dhaka started much later than us, it is ahead of Kolkata in terms of modernity. And three decades later there are no women metro rail drivers in Kolkata. And Dhaka's first metro rail was run by a woman and 6 drivers were women. In other words, along with the development of the country, women have been empowered here.'
On the occasion of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day, Minister Hasan said, "Although we won victory on December 16, 1971, our independence was not yet complete." The greatest Bengali of a thousand years who awakened the sleepy Bengali ethnicity of a thousand years, under whose leadership the independence of the country came, on the return of that Bangabandhu on January 10, 1972, our independence was truly fulfilled. 'Describing the role of films in the national life, the information minister said that our films should help the country to reach its dream destination by removing the inconsistencies of the society. Apart from providing entertainment, it should play a role in purifying and refining the society, that is my expectation today.
