A 5-day-long training program for trainers on search, rescue and first aid in earthquake and fire incident was inaugurated on Sunday. Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence is providing this training.
The trainers trained under this program will impart ideas on the subject to the watchmen of their respective institutions and apply the knowledge gained in the training in their respective workplaces when necessary. In any need, the trainees can take the assistance of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The training is being conducted in Mirpur in Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence training center under the project ‘Strengthening Urban Public - Private Programming for Earthquake Resilience’ (SUPER) with the support of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO). This training is designed for the trainers of the member companies of Bangladesh Professional Security Service Providers Association (BPSSPA).
The Principal of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Center, Md. Saleh Uddin, BFM (Service), opined at the inauguration ceremony that this training will open up new aspects of civil protection services through the coordination of public and private institutions.
Thanking the SUPER consortium and ECHO for organizing such a training and strengthening preparedness to tackle earthquake and fire hazards through Public Private Partnership, he added that the members of Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence are carrying out the rescue operations in Turkey's earthquake-prone areas. Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence has established itself as a highly competent organization in providing training on earthquake and fire preparedness. We hope that the participants in this training will acquire these skills and better prepare themselves to deal with the issues”.
Bangladesh Professional Security Service Providers Association (BPSSPA) president Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Azam (Retd.) and SUPER Project Consortium Manager A M Nasir Uddin were present as special guests on the occasion.
“As part of this training, the trainers will develop a module for usage during the basic training of the guards of their organization and by using it during the training, all the newly attached guards will have a basic understanding of earthquake and fire fighting so that they can use it in emergencies at their workplaces. Apart from this, they will be able to conduct firefighting and earthquake preparedness drills every six months at their respective workplaces. An appropriate representative from the local fire service station will assist in this regard,” said BPSSPA president Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Azam (Retd.).
"Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence, Bangladesh Professional Security Service Providers Association and Super Consortium have started a new era of Public Private Partnership by this joint initiative. Through this, the private sector's emergency response activities will be more organized and effective," said SUPER project’s consortium Manager, A M Nashir Uddin.
With the aim of strengthening resilience of businesses and urban communities to reduce the impact of earthquake and fire incident in Bangladesh, European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) is funding and United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (UNRCO) is providing strategic support to implement the SUPER project. This project is being jointly implemented by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), ActionAid Bangladesh, United Purpose, and World Vision Bangladesh in different areas of Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations.
