Bangladesh envoy to India visits Benapole port

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran visited Benapole Port on Friday.

Commissioner of Benapole Custom House Azizur Rahman received the envoy after he arrived in the zero line of the border. Imran also visited various sheds of the port’s international check post and customs houses. 

After inspection the port and international check post, a view-exchange meeting was held at Benapole Customs Conference Center with Customs, Ports, Authorities, Benapole C&F Agents Association, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Importer and Exporter Association.

Imran said India-Bangladesh relations are much better than in the past.

If the import-export trade can be made more dynamic, the national interest will be protected. The prime ministers of the two countries want to further strengthen relations between the two countries. The people of the two countries will benefit if the mutual understanding between the two countries increases further. He further said that he is monitoring the condition of the land ports.

In order to increase trade between the two countries, a comprehensive report will be prepared and discussed with the governments of both countries. Bangladesh High Commissioner to Kolkata Tawfiq Hasan, First Secretary of the Calcutta High Commission Shamsul Arif, Councilor of the New Delhi High Commission Shahed Azim, Azizur Rahman, Commissioner of Benapole Custom House Mamun Tarafdar, Director of Benapole Port Matiar Rahman, Director of  India Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Upazila Executive Officer Sarmin Akhter, C&F Agents Association President Mofizur Rahman Sajan, Senior vice-President Alhaj Nuruzzaman, General Secretary Emdadul Haque Lata, Import-Exporters Association President Mohsin Milon, Police Immigration OC Mohsin Uddin, among others, were present.

The leaders called for the construction of a railway container terminal at Benapole, an end to extortion from trucks loaded with imported goods at the Bangaon Kalitala parking lot on the other side of Benapole, acquisition of new land for the port, and creation of a separate port authority.

At the end, he exchanged views with the members of the Benapole C&F Agents Association on various issues and possibilities of the port.
