The 22nd meeting of the South Asian Telecommunications Regulatory Council (SATRC) was held on November 1-3, 2021 under the auspices of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunications Community (APT).
The meeting was attended by heads of telecommunication regulatory bodies of nine SATRC member countries namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, various levels of government and private officials and Secretary General of APT and senior officials. Concerned officials led by BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder participated in various sessions of the three-day virtual meeting.
BTRC Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder addressed the inaugural function on SATRC Action Plan Phase VII, APT Strategic Plan for 2021-2023 and SATRC Action Plan Phase VIII for 2022-23.
On the second day of the Council, it was decided that the 2023 South Asian Telecommunication Regulators 'Council (SATRC-23) meeting will be held in Bangladesh.
At the same time, Shyam Sundar Sikder, Chairman of BTRC was elected as the Vice-Chairman of SATRC for the current term and Chairman of SATRC for the term of 2023.
It was also decided that the meeting of SATRC - Working Group on Policy, Regulation and Services will be held in Bangladesh in 2022. Bangladesh re-elected Vice-Chairman of this Working Group.
The election of Bangladesh as the Chairman of the South Asian Telecommunications Regulatory Council (SATRC) is a recognition of the tremendous progress that has been made in the digitalization and telecommunications sector in Bangladesh among the Council member countries.
