The need for a vaccine in the coronavirus-stricken world is now more severe than it was ever before. This puts a pressure on the research institutions that are trying to come up with a possible vaccine for the world. In these testing times when deaths are still continuing because of the pandemic caused by Covid-19, it is encouraging to know that the government has already made plans and taken steps to fulfil that plan in providing the country’s people with vaccines as soon as it is available.

According to a report published in this daily, Bangladesh is buying 3O million doses of Oxford University/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine once approved by the WHO. This augurs well as it is imperative for reducing the death rate and the number of infected in the country. There is also the necessity for the quick distribution of the vaccine once it arrives in the country.

There might be need of additional shipments

and the government has to be ready to bring in

said shipments if such a scene occurs

Also, the number of vaccines in the preliminary shipment won’t suffice for the entire population of the country. So, there might be need of additional shipments and the government has to be ready to bring in said shipments if such a scene occurs.

On the other hand, it is commendable for the ministry of health in going through and signing a tripartite MoU with the local company namely Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd and the Serum Institute of India to provide adequate dosages of the vaccine. It would be prudent that once the vaccine arrives, measures should be in place so that equitable distribution takes place and it reaches all corners of the country.

Above all, we applaud the government in keeping a keen eye on this key and critical issue. Hopefully, with the combined efforts of the government and the people of the country we will be able to come out on top of this

global crisis in a better shape than a number of other countries.
