The Bangladesh Biman Corporation (repeal) Bill 2023 was passed in Parliament on Monday aiming to amend and reinstate Bangladesh Biman Order-1972, which was enacted by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism MdMahbub Ali moved the Bill and it was passed by voice vote.

In the objective of the Bill, the minister said that the Bangladesh Biman Order, 1972 enacted by Bangabandhu but it was repealed by the Bangladesh Biman Corporation Ordinance, 1977 by the then military government without making any fundamental changes.

But since all the laws made during the regime of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are historically related to his political philosophy and the constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the said order is re-enforced and amended as Bangladesh Biman (Repealed Bangladesh Biman Order, 1972 Reinstatement and Amendment) Act, 2023,

The minister said the law will ensure efficient management of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Limited as a state-run company including dissolution of the board of directors, appointment of new directors, termination of management agency agreement and amendment of memorandum or articles of association or any charter, agreement or document to reflect the principles and ideals of the government.
