Information Minister and Awami League (AL) Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday said Bangladesh has become a role model of development under the leadership of the AL government, reports BSS.

“Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has been leading the party for long 38 years. Under her leadership, AL came to power for four times. She established the country as a role model of development in the world through different achievements and progress,” he told a discussion in Shilpakala Academy auditorium.

Dr Hasan said Bangladesh became a ‘case study’ of World Food Programme as it had been turned into a food surplus country from a food deficit one.

Awami League’s sub-committee on publicity and publication arranged the discussion on “Awami League in Thoughts of Youths”.

Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Adviser HT Imam, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Deputy Minister for Education and AL Organizing Secretary Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury Nowfel, Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul Islam Amin and AL Central Working Committee Member Merina Jahan, among others, addressed the discussion moderated by PM’s Special Assistant Barrister Shah Ali Farhad.

The information minister said once Bangladesh drew the attention of world media for natural disasters and it was considered as one of the poverty-stricken countries in the world.

“Now there is no scope to call Bangladesh a poor country as it has already attained the status of a lower-middle income country and it will be turned into a middle income one within few years,” he added. He said Awami League not only brought progress and prosperity for the country as a ruling party, it also worked for realizing rights of people when it was in the opposition in parliament.

Speaking on the occasion, HT Imam called upon the youth to make themselves able citizens of the country to help the government materialize the Vision 2021, Vision 2041 and Delta Plan 2100.

Mustafa Jabbar said before the 2008 general election, Awami League promised to build a Digital Bangladesh. Now Digital Bangladeshi is no more a dream, rather it has become reality, he said.

He stressed the need for allocating necessary budget to prepare the new generation for the fourth industrial revolution.
