Bangladesh badly needs a consistent Mustafizur

Mustafizur Rahman emerged as a shining star in the sky of Bangladesh Cricket in 2015. He has the knack to baffle the batsmen around the world until his form took a dig following recurring injury. But still, he remains the main pacer of Bangladesh for quite some time now. It looked injury has taken a toll on him as he was never as consistent as he was in the beginning of his career.

This inconsistent performance is continuing in the ongoing World Cup also, putting Bangladesh in a spot of bother. Mustafiz bowled well against South Africa in this World Cup, he picked up three-wicket, giving away 67 runs in 10 overs. But he looked jaded against New Zealand and England. He bowled with an economy of 6.69 against the Kiwi’s and went wicket-less. Mustafiz was even worse against the English batsmen. England batsmen scored with an economy of 8.33 against Mustafiz and he only picked up a single wicket at the end. Former Bangladesh Captain Shahriar Nafees thinks the injury is the main reason behind this mixed performance. But he believes that Mustafiz will be back on his best very shortly.

Mustafiz is fighting with injury in his whole career, in 2016 he got injured in the shoulder at England while playing for Sussex in the Natwest T20 Blast. In 2017 he once again got injured in the ankle while playing football in the practice. For that, he missed the first part of BPL that year. Then he also missed the T20 series against Afghanistan because of that injury. He missed the test series against West Indies. After recovery, he decided to play in the DPL but here he once again fell under the curse of injury while playing for Shinepukur. He only played two matches in that edition of DPL.
