The biennial election of Bangladesh Actors Equity will be held today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The voting will start at 9am and will go on till 5pm. The results will be published at night.
Nomination papers were collected from 15 to 18 May and the last date of submission was 22 May. The list of candidates was published on 27 May and the last date for withdrawal was 29 May.
52 candidates are vying for 21 posts, including that of president and general secretary, from three panels in the polls. One unopposed candidate has already been elected. 3 candidadtes are vying for the post of president including Ashiqul Islam Khan, Md Mizanur Rahman and Shahiduzzaman Salim. Azad Abul Kalam, Ahsanul Haque Minu, Eugene Vincent Gomes, Iqbal Babu, Tania Ahmed and Dilu Mazumdar are competing for the post of vice-president. Ahsan Habib Nasim and Md Abdul Hannan are competing for the post of general secretary of the association.
Ashraf Kabir, Anisur Rahman Milon, AKM Aminul Haque Amin, Rawnak Hasan and Sumona Shoma are the candidates for the post of joint general secretary. Lutfor Rahman George has already been elected organizational secretary as he was unopposed.
For the post of finance secretary Mohammad Nur-e-Alam Noyon and Moin Uddin Alam are the candidates. The candidates for the post of office secretary are Urmila Srabonti Kar, Arman Parvez Murad, Golam Mahmud and Sheikh Mirazul Islam. The candidates for the post of event secretary are Zeenat Sanu Shagota, Pavel Islam and Rashed Mamunur Rahman Apu and for the post of law and welfare secretary the candidates are Momo Shiuli, Shamima Islam Tushti and Shirin Alam.
For the post of publicity and publication secretary the candidates are Pran Ray, Shafiul Alam Babu and Shahid Alamgir.
The candidates for the post of information and technology editor are Md Sirajul Alam and Md Sujat Hossain Shimul.
The 21 candidates for the executive position are Khalid Ahmed Salehin, Zakia Bari Momo, Tarek Mahmud, Nurun Nahar Begum, Rezaul Karim Sarkar, Bonna Mirza, Nadia Ahmed, Masud Alam Tanvir, Mahadi Hasan Pial, Munira Begum Memi, Md Wasim Howlader, Md Zahidul Islam Choudhury, Md Mahabubur Rahman Molla, Sony Rahman, Shams Ibne Wahid, Shah Mohammad Abdur Razzak, Shamsun Nahar Shirin and Salim Mahbub.
The last election of the artistes’ association was held on May of 2017 when Misha Sawdagar was elected president and Zayed Khan general secretary.
