Bangladesh ranked 94th in the 2022 World Happiness Report among 146 countries, climbing seven notches up from 101 in the previous year’s report.
The report was published on Friday by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network ahead of International Day of Happiness.
Finland occupied the first position as the happiest country in the world for the fifth consecutive year. The 2nd and 3rd positions were occupied by two more Scandinavian nations - Denmark and Iceland respectively.
On the other hand Afghanistan was ranked as the most unhappy country in the world, followed by Lebanon and Zimbabwe.
The report contains rankings of national happiness based on several factors such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perceptions of corruption and primarily on the responses by the individuals.
International Day of Happiness will be celebrated today in the country along with the rest of the world.
The day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, is celebrated across the world every year recognizing the pursuit of happiness as a fundamental human goal.
Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, speaking at the high level meeting on “Happiness and Well-Being: Defining a New Economic Paradigm” convened during the sixty-sixth session of the General Assembly, said, “The world needs a new economic paradigm that recognizes the parity between the three pillars of sustainable development. Social, economic and environmental well-being are indivisible. Together they define gross global happiness.”
On this day, the United Nations General Assembly calls for people to make more continuous progress and appreciate the small things that continue to make their lives better.
