Bangladesh 8th globally in weekly rise

Bangladesh on Friday was ranked 8th in the World Health Organisation’s list of weekly rise of confirmed cases among the countries across the world.
The US, Brazil, India, South Africa, Russia, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia are ahead of Bangladesh in the list of the last seven days of the virus in the countries across the world.
On the daily count, Bangladesh was the 9th in the list of July 3 among the countries.
Bangladesh on Friday reported 3,114 new coronavirus cases and 42 deaths in the last 24 hours till 8am. With that, the health department so far confirmed 156,391 coronavirus cases and 1,968 deaths.
In the last week, Bangladesh confirmed 26,598 cases.
The US confirmed 304,156 new cases last week to remain at the top of the list while Brazil reported 260,122 new cases to be the second highest among all countries.
India ranked third with 131,536 new cases, South Africa ranked fourth with 47,537 new cases and Russia ranked fifth with 47,171 new cases in a week.
Chile in sixth position with 25,477 new cases in one week while Saudi Arabia seventh with 26,958 new coronavirus cases in seven days, according to the WHO website.
The World Health Organisation emphasised the importance of taking a “comprehensive approach” to responding to the pandemic -- “Not testing alone. Not physical distancing alone. Not contact tracing alone. Not masks alone. Do it all”, its director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
