Bangla Sign Language Day observed

The Bangla Sign Language Day-2024 was observed through various programmes in Jamlapur district on Wednesday.

The theme of the day was 'Promoting Bengali Sign Language to Build Smart Bangladesh'.

Earlier, a procession was brought out from Dewanpara area in the town that ended at the Deputy Commissioner's office. After the procession, a discussion meeting and prize distribution ceremony was held at Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) Office. 

Deputy Commissioner Shafiur Rahman spoke as the chief guest. Deputy Director of District Social Service Office Raju Ahmed, District Education Officer Halima Khatun, District Disability Officer Ishraqi Fatema, Development Association Human Resource Development Director Human Rights Activist and Journalist Jahangir Salim, UNICEF spoke, among others, in the meeting under the chairmanship of Additional District Commissioner (General) Shitesh Chandra Sarkar. 

Imtiaz Ahme, Child Affairs Officer of Mymensingh Divisional Office, Mizanur Rahman, President of Bati Ghar Association, Iqbal Hossain, Registration Officer of Social Services Office, were alao present. 

City social service officer Farooq Mia conducted the event.

The event was organised by the District Administration and District Social Services in collaboration with Disability Services and Aid Centers and Voluntary Social Welfare Organizations.

After the discussion, the Deputy Commissioner handed over prizes to 5 winners of painting competition and cheques to 14 disabled people who have been suffering from various diseases.

Meherpur Correspondent adds: The Bangla SignLanguage Day was observed in Meherpur with the theme "Promote Bengali Sign Language, Build Smart Bangladesh". On this occasion, a colorful procession was taken out from in front of the District Shilpakala Academy around 9:30 am on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shamim Hasan led the procession. District Civil Surgeon Dr Mahi Uddin Ahmed, District Social Service Officer-in-Charge Kazi Quader Mohammad Fazle Rabbi along with district government officials and employees participated.

 The procession ended at the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) conference room after parading different roads of the town. The district administration and the district social service office organized the procession.
