Bangladesh Consul General in Toronto Nayem Uddin Ahmed has said that Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nessa Mujib is “a symbol of inspiration, patience, and love”.

“Just before the 7th March speech Bangamata had so correctly advised Bangabandhu to say what Bangabandhu believes the best for the nation and accordingly Bangabandhu uttered the great words from his heart –‘The struggle this time is for emancipation! The struggle this time is for independence’,” he said.

The Bangladesh Consulate General in Toronto celebrated the birth anniversaries of Bangamata who was born on August 8 and his son freedom fighter Sheikh Kamal, born on August 5, jointly in an event.

Discussion on their glorious lives and contributions, special prayers and cake cutting were the highlights of the celebration.

All officials of the mission attended the programme which began by reading out the messages of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Video documentaries on the lives of Bangamata and Sheikh Kamal were screened followed by a discussion session.

“How blessed Bangabandhu was to have a great lady Sheikh Fazilatun Nessa as his wife, who passionately looked after the family in the long absence of him and steadfastly inspired Bangabandhu to untangle the nation from subjugation,” the consul general added.

He also spoke on Sheikh Kamal’s cultural creativity and his great passion for sports.

The Consul General urged everyone “to instill love and inspiration from the lives-sketch of Bangamata and Freedom Fighter Sheikh Kamal and contribute the most to make ‘SonarBangla’- as dreamt by our Father of the Nation”.
