Bangabazar traders resume business in makeshift shops

Traders at Bangabazar area have set up their makeshift shops to restart their businesses from Wednesday. But the number of makeshift shops arrangement is much fewer comparing to the affected traders.  

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh inaugurated the makeshift arrangement for the affected businessmen. The mayor has announced a donation of Tk 2 crores from the corporation’s own funds for the rehabilitation of traders affected by the devastating fire. 

Taposh also assured that the corporation would continue its support to all small traders so that they can resume their business activ

ities in full swing.

The 1.79 acres of Bangabazar ground is being leveled by laying about 2.5 lakh bricks and about 150 truckloads of sand by DSCC. Prior to this, waste disposal operations were conducted at the fire site. More than 1060 tonnes of waste has been removed from the fire site.   

Keeping Eid ahead, such makeshift arrangement has been made to facilitate them. According to the investigation report of DSCC, the number of affected traders is 3,845. 

However, about 700 businessmen have set up sitting arrangement in Bangabazar. Although DSCC has informed, according to the list of victims, everyone can temporarily set up an arrangement and do business there. 

But, businessmen have claimed that even they have got their makeshift arrangement under the open sky but it will be difficult to continue business in the extreme heat wave. At the same time as they are wholesalers, they cannot continue in the retail level where customers’ presence is also much fewer.
