Bangabandhu’s vision was to end economic inequality

Speakers say at ICAB webinar

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman applied his accounting knowledge to eliminate economic inequality and the welfare of people of the country. According to Bangabandhu, the essence of accounting was the desire to spend for the welfare of the poor by preventing misuse or wastage of state funds and its distribution.

Speakers forwarded these opinion at the virtual webinar on the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to the Audit and Accountancy Profession organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) on Thursday marking the birth anniversary of Bangabandhu.

Dr. Shamsul Alam, hon’ble State Minister for Planning, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, graced the webinar as the Chief Guest. Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah, Secretary, Financial Institutions Division (FID), Ministry of Finance, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh joined the webinar as Special Guest. Md. Shahadat Hossain  FCA, President of ICAB, presented the Keynote Paper.

Dr. Md Salim Uddin FCA, FCMA, Professor, Department of Accounting, University of Chittagong, Md. Humayun Kabir FCA, Past President & Council Member, ICAB, Professor Dr. Abhinaya Chandra Saha, Vice-Chancellor, The Millennium University and Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Curator, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum and Former Secretary to the Government were the discussants on the keynote paper. Sidhartha Barua FCA, Vice President-ICAB  gave closing remarks.

State Minister for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam said that the steps taken by Bangabandhu in the field of industry were significant. Due to Bangabandhu's strong move, all obstacles have been removed and production in the industrial sector has increased. Production was at the core of Bangabandhu's economic philosophy. 

Meetings, rallies, parliaments everywhere have he spoke of increasing production, he said, adding that accounting is used wherever there is production in the economy.

He also said, it is not possible to reach the desired level of production of the country without the use of accounting and there is an immense need for accountants for ensure proper use of resources. He further said, the use of accounting is required to verify whether each asset has been used properly, correct return or income is coming from the asset.

Highlighting the steps taken for policy reformation after war ragged economy of the country  ICAB President abd keynote paper presenter Md. Shahadat Hossain FCA said, an accountant projected the financial condition of the organization and evaluates the financial performance of the organization, but Bangabandhu applied his accounting knowledge to eliminate discrepancies between rich and poor.  The essence of accounting was the desire to spend for the welfare of the poor by preventing misuse or wastage of state funds and its distribution, he added.
