Bangabandhu’s mural, sculpture on Liberation War vandalised

The miscreants allegedly vandalised the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and sculpture on Liberation War in the dark of night.   

The incident took place at Shaitpakia area under Nalchity upazila of Jhalokati on Saturday night.

On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued four broken parts of the sculpture from a canal beside the sculpture.

Locals said, an important front war took place at Chachoir village in Jhalokati during the Liberation War in 1971. In memory of the front war, local freedom fighter Mofij Uddin Howlader took the initiative of building a sculpture at the area, the entrance point of Nalchity upazila. He built the sculpture in his own initiative in 2017.The sculpture covers murals of four freedom fighters including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The miscreants vandalised several parts of the murals.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalchity Police Station Md Sakhawat Hossain said police recovered the mural parts from beside the canal of Satpakia Bazar. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.
