To commemorate the martyrs of August 15, including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ruling Awami League and its associate bodies are continuously holding various programmes.

They are holding these programmes as a part of their month-long pragrammes announced by the party.

As part of the programmes, the Sub-Committee on the Relief and Social Welfare of Awami League on Monday distributed various gift items among the Covid-19 pandemic-hit people in the capital city.

The gift items were distributed through a function held at Mirpur Girls Ideal College.

Mahmub-ul-Alam Hanif, a joint secretary of Awami League, was the chief guest at the function while local lawmaker Ilias Uddin Mollah, also a member of the Standing Committee on the Defense and Religious Affairs Ministries, was in the chair. Lawmakers Mirza Azam and AKM Rahmat Ullah and Awami League leader Sujit Roy Nandi, among others, were also present at the function.

The Awami League leaders hailed the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally killed by some derailed Army officials on August 15 in 1975 at his Dhanmondi residence while he was the president of Bangladesh. However, fortunately, his two daughters--Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana--survived as they were staying abroad during the assassination.

Besides, the government led by Sheikh Hasina has already completed the trial of the killers of Bangabandhu and five of the killers already have been executed by the court order. The government is also trying to bring back home the other killers, who are now fugitive in different countries.
