Bangabandhu-PUDS National Debate Festival began at the Premier University Auditorium at Dampar, in Chattogram city on Friday morning. In the tenth year of its establishment, the premier University Debating Society (PUDS) launched the debate festival to spread the ideology of Bangabandhu among the students of schools, colleges and universities marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhoury, Deputy Minister for Education, inaugurated the festival as the chief guest. In his speech, he said, “We got this Bangladesh because the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born 100 years ago from today. Under his leadership, he thought of a secular and progressive Bangladesh”.
Dr. Taufiq Saeed, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering of Premier University presided over the meeting. AKM Tafazzal Haque, Treasurer of Premier University, Dean Professor of Arts and Sociology, Dr Mohit Ul Alam and Premier University Debating Society (PUDS) Chief Moderator Julia Parvin were present at the time as special guests.
Special Guest Treasurer Prof AKM Tafjal Haque said, “I congratulate them for organizing the Bangabandhu-PUDS National Debate Festival on the occasion of Mujib Barsho. In this way, the premier university should become a place of intellectual practice”.
In this programme 24 debate teams from schools, 18 debate teams from college and 33 university debate teams are participating. The festival will run until March 17. After the opening ceremony, a daylong school and college level competition was held. On March 17, the final competition and award distribution ceremony will be held.
