Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and DUCSU president Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said that the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a pioneer of inclusive development. He said that he Bangabandhu always included underprivileged and marginalized people in mainstream development. The objective of his policies was to free the poor and needy from the cycle of poverty.
The VC said this in his speech as president at a memorial held of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium on Thursday. Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Professor Dr Atiur Rahman presented a speech titled ‘Bangabandhu’s Economic Policies’ at the event. DU Social Science department dean Professor Dr Sadeka Halim, DUCSU GS Golam Rabbani and AGS Md Saddam Hossain took part in the discussion. VC Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman said, Bangabandhu planted the seeds of inclusive development in the fields of agriculture, industry, education, health, economics, business and all other sectors. He called on the current generation to follow in his footsteps and improve the lives of ordinary people.
In his speech Dr Atiur Rahman said, ‘After assuming the role as Prime Minister, Bangabandhu brought administrative changes, creation of the constitution, refugee repatriation, improvement of communication systems, expansion of education system and establishment of Islamic foundation.’ ‘He brought 40 thousand primary schools under government administration; he founded the freedom fighter welfare trust, distribution of agriculture loans, distribution of cattle and pumps in order to rebuild our war-devasted nation. The current government under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is following his guidance to bring prosperity and progress to the country.’
