Bangabandhu showed us the way to build a ‘Sonar Bangla,’ and tried to present the demands, hopes and aspirations of Bengalis to the world, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.
She made the remarks while speaking at a seminar on 'Bangabandhu's Dream and Indomitable Bangladesh' organized by Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
Dipu Moni said that Bangabandhu knew the past, understood the present and could read the future.
“His sense of history gave direction to the Bengalis. Bangabandhu's non-cooperation movement was the greatest example of Gandhi's non-violent movement,” she added.
She further said that Bangabandhu had a profound connection with the people.
“People became united at his call. In his speech on March 7, 1971, many called for the declaration of independence, but he refused. He could prophesy and take all the steps based on it. Bangabandhu spoke of secularism. By secularism, he did not refer to being irreligious. He talked about showing respect for all religions,” she said.
Former Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University, Prof Mizanur Rahman chaired the event.
General Secretary of the Bangladesh Progressive Columnist Forum Professor Milton Biswas and Jagannath University Treasurer Kamal Uddin Ahmed also spoke during this time, among others.
