Paying rich tribute to Bangabandhu on his 101st birthday anniversary, Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said architect of the Bangalee nation Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not only the leader of Bangladesh, but also the global leader of all Bangalees.

“The Bangalee nation has achieved the independence under the leadership of Bangabandhu and established the state through struggles. For this, Bangabandhu is not only leader of Bangladesh, but also leader of all Bangalees across the globe,” he said.

The minister made the comments while addressing a discussion at the auditorium of Awami League central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital, reports BSS.

Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) organised the discussion, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.

Earlier in the morning, Hasan along with the leaders of Awami League paid rich tribute to the great leader at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in city’s Dhanmondi.

He said, “The Bangalee nation has achieved the independence and established the state through struggles and bloodshed under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Such a leader is rare in the history.”

He said the nation is going to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence when the country got the final recommendation from the United Nations for Bangladesh’s transition to a developing nation from least-developed country status.

But, he said, it is really astonishing that BNP didn’t congratulate the government for the success of the nation. They even didn’t congratulate the countrymen, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said, “We know that they (BNP) feel ashamed as the achievement came under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Eventually, the party has failed to express gratitude.”

The minister said BNP, like Pakistan, is disappointed as the country is progressing fast under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s worthy daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He urged BNP to accept the truth and not to try to distort the real history.

BKL general secretary Advocate Umme Kulsum Smriti and vice president Sheikh Mohammad Jahangir Alam, among others, addressed the discussion with its president agriculturist Samir Chanda in the chair.

After the discussion, the minister cut a cake with BKL leaders and distributed fertilizer among the farmers.

Later, Hasan joined a doa-mahfil at National Baitul Mukarram Mosque after Johr prayers.
