‘Bangabandhu Gold Cup’ inaugurated in Cox’s Bazar marking Mujib Year

On the occasion of the birth centenary of the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the 'Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament 2021' has been inaugurated organized by Cox's Bazar Municipality. 

Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Local Government Department, inaugurated the tournament by flying balloons at Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin Stadium in Cox's Bazar on Friday (January 15t) afternoon.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function, he proudly mentioned himself as a former player of the field and said that Cox's Bazar has come a long way in sports across the country. The boys here are playing well at the national level in various events including football and cricket. 

He said the Awami League is a sports-friendly government. For this, thanks to the sincerity of the Prime Minister, an initiative has already been taken to build a football stadium of international standard here. BKSP is working. "I have a lot of memories surrounding Cox's Bazar Stadium," he added. I used to play football regularly, here. Many talented players have been born from this stadium. National and International star players have played in this stadium. Therefore, necessary steps will be taken for the development of Cox's Bazar Stadium, Insha Allah. Besides, the government will extend all possible cooperation in the development of this fertile ground for sports.

General Secretary of District Awami League, Municipal Mayor Mujibur Rahman, the main initiator of Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament, presided over the function. It was attended, among others, by Cox's Bazar District Awami League President Advocate Faridul Islam Chowdhury, Cox's Bazar 62 MP Ashek Ullah Rafiq, Cox's Bazar Additional District Magistrate were present at the inaugural function conducted by Cox's Bazar Municipality Panel Mayor Helal Uddin Kabir. Shahjahan Ali, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) said. Amin Al Parvez, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Overall) Zahid Iqbal and District Awami League Organizing Secretary Nazneen Sarwar Kaberi. 

In his speech, Mujibur Rahman said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is a leader with whom the history of Bangladesh has a deep connection. The assassin's bullet killed him but he could not sever the relationship at all. As the days go by, his name has become brighter in history. Through this tournament, the new generation will be able to know more about Bangabandhu in details. 

In addition, this event will play an important role in keeping the young generation away from drugs. Deputy Commissioner spoke as a special guest.

The speaker that football is deeply rooted in the Bengali tradition. This is nothing new in Bengali football love. At one time this game was very popular among the Bengalis. The games are held at different times in almost all places including neighborhoods, villages, schools and colleges. In the evolution of time, the love of Bengalis for this game has not diminished.
