Bangabandhu Football Tournament-2019 of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia began on the campus with much enthusiasm and fanfare on Saturday.
The tournament will be held for male and female students among inter-department and inter-hall football contest of the university.
IU vice-chancellor Prof Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari as chief guest inaugurated the Tournament on the central football ground, and Pro-vice chancellor Prof Dr M Shahinoor who is also convener of IU Sports committee, was in the chair.
Addressing the inaugural function, Dr Rashid Askari said that the students should take part extensively in exports, cultural and other extra-curriculum activities so that they can be freed from the drugs and militancy.
Mabila Rahman, assistant director of IU physical education department, conducted the inaugural ceremony while IU treasurer Prof Dr Selim Toha attended as special guest. Registrar in charge S M Abdul Latif, Mustafizur Rahman, Additional Police Super (ASP) of Kushtia, Associate Prof Dr M Anisur Rahman of Mathematics department, and IU physical education department director Dr Mohammad Sohel were also present here, among others.
33 departments out of 34, and 5 halls took part in the contest.
Social Welfare department won against Computer Science department at the inaugurating match with 1-0 goal, while English department beat Environmental Science and Geography department by 5-2 goals in tiebreaker shoot.
