Bangabandhu Dhaka Marathon on Jan 10

Bangladesh Army is going to organize the 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2022' on January 10, to mark the homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 

To this end, a coordination meeting was held on Thursday at Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment. 

Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army and marathon organizing committee chair Lieutenant General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan presided over the meeting. 

The committee chairman gave necessary directions for the successful holding of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Dhaka Marathon-2022 and sought the sincere cooperation of all in this regard. Later, he addressed the journalists and answered to various questions at the press briefing. 

As part of the celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Homecoming Day, the marathon was held for the first time on January 10 this year under the overall management and supervision of Bangladesh Army with the dedicated efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. 

The marathon has already received recognition from the Asian Athletics Association and the Association of International Marathon and Distance Races (AIMS).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the main patron and Bangladesh Army Chief General S M Shafiuddin Ahmed is the chief adviser of the event. Army Sports Control Board, Trust Innovation Limited and Networld Bangladesh Limited are the partners of Bangladesh Army in this year's event. Bangladesh Athletics Federation is playing an important role as a technical partner.

The event will start at 5:30am on the day from Bangladesh Army Stadium and end at Hatirjheel Amphitheater by turning clockwise around Hatirjheel via Banani-Kamal-Ataturk Avenue-Gulshan 2-Gulshan 1-Police Plaza. Altogether 200 runners including 100 in full marathon and 100 in half marathon from home and abroad will participate in the event.

Already 30 elite runners have registered. Notable participating countries include Morocco, Kenya, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Latvia, Lithuania, Rwanda, Mexico, France, Spain, Italy, Bahrain and Algeria. Around 30 people from SAF countries --- India, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka will participate in the full marathon.  

It is expected that AIMS President Francisco Borao will be present at the event to make the marathon more popular for the first time.
