Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Jatiya Gold Cup Football Tournament, Boys (under-17) 2019 and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Jatiya Gold Cup Football Tournament, Girls (under-17) 2019, first of its kind, began at Rangamati Marry Stadium in Rangamati on Tuesday.
Local MP and former state minister for ministry of Chattagram Hill Tracts Dipankar Talukder inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest.
AKM Mamunur Rashid, deputy commissioner of Rangamati, Akbar Hossain Chowdhury, mayor of Rangamati municipality and Safiul Azam, were attended the opening programme.
Zila Krira Office and District Sports Association jointly organising the tournament.
A total of 20 teams from ten upazilas of the district were participating in the tournament.
In the opening match, Barkal High School (girls) defeated Bandukbhanga High School by 1-0.
Beauty Chakma scored the lone goal at 10:15 minutes for the wining team just after beginning the first match at 10:00am.
Tisha Chakma and Moitree Chakma from the defeated team expressed their frustration over participating in the game. They said that they did get any chance for exercise or practice before joining the event. So, they were faced by many problems, they added.
The final match will be held on September 22 this month on the same venue.
