December 14 is Bandarban Free Day. On this day in 1971, the national flag was hoisted after expelling the Pakistani forces from Bandarban Hill District (then Bandarban District). Bandarban Invasion Day was announced through this. In the first week of November 1971, the war started in the Bandarban border area to defeat the Pak forces. In the inaccessible forest, there was a fierce clash between the Pak Army and the freedom fighters in Ward No 1, Antaha Para, Kanaizho Para of the present Rowangchari Upazila, Noapatong Union. The freedom fighters were led by the then Subedar of EPR Major Taher Muhammad Ali. After fighting for about four hours, the fighting stopped at 8 am. According to the information of Mangchou Marma, a villager of Kanaizho district, on November 15th, the freedom fighters fought with the Pak army all night. In the later period, the allied forces were driven out from different parts of the country. After this, the Bandarban hill district was liberated from the Pakistani invaders on 14th December. Honorable Captain (Retd) Abul Kashem Chowdhury, Former District Commander of Bandarban District Freedom Fighters Sangsad, said the heroic symbol.

December 14, 1971 was declared as Bandarban Invaders' Freedom Day by hoisting the national flag under the leadership of valiant freedom fighter Subal Chandra Muhuri along with the then District Administrator Sukkur Ali, Bandarban Bomang Circle Chief Bomangri Raja Mangshai Pru Chowdhury and local Awami League leaders.
