BANASAS honours seven women on Women’s Day

Bangladesh Nari Sangbadik Samity (BANASAS), a platform of female journalists in Bangladesh, has observed its sixth founding anniversary and the International Women’s Day-2024. 

On the occasion, the organisation honoured seven women for their contributions in different fields. 

The award giving ceremony and the founding anniversary event took place at the National Press Club in the capital on Friday (March). Daily Bangladesh Post was the media partner of the event and Sat Rang Agro Farm and Sharebazar News.com were the event sponsors. Event partner E365.

 The award recipients are: Fatima Tuz Zohra in music, Gholam Farida Chanda in TV acting, culinary artist Shamsunnahar Ahmed Mita, women entrepreneur Ruksana Parveen Deepu, Rozina Islam in journalism, Nipun Akter in film acting and Dr. Ayesha Akhter in medical services. 

BANASAS Nasima Akhter Shoma presided over the programme where president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Omar Faruk spoke as the chief guest. Editor of Dainik Jugantar Saiful Alam, joint secretaries of Natinal Press Club Ayub Bhuiyan and Ashraf Ali and executive member of BFUJ Ummul Wara Sweety were present as special guests.  BANASAS Vice President Karnina Khandaker, training and research secretary Halima Khatun, journalist leader Sajeda Haque, president of Rural Journalist Foundation Zahirul Islam, journalist leader Ragibul Reza and welfare secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Zubair Rahman Chowdhury spoke at the event, among others.

The speakers in their speeches highlighted the outstanding contributions of women in society and state building. Various obstacles in the progress of women have also come up in their speeches. 

At one stage of the event, BANASAS leaders and members celebrated the organisation’s sixth founding anniversary by cutting a cake.
