Cyclone Amphan has carved a merciless path of destruction through several districts in Bangladesh, killing many, destroying thousands of homes and damaging embankments.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bagerhat inspected the embankment damaged by the storm on Tuesday. He said, an emergency and long-term plan will be taken for the victims of the erosion of the Pashur river in Mongla.
After inspecting the damaged dam in Kanainagar, South Kainmari area of Mongla on Tuesday, DC Md. Mamunur Rashid said, "We visited the eroded embankment area including Kanainagar. Now, we will discuss with the authorities on what needs to be done in the long run.”
Md. Nahiduzzaman Khan, executive engineer of the Water Development Board, said, “Although the embankment in Mongla was not owned by the WDB. This has been done locally with various projects including Kabikha. Even then the matter has been reported to the concerned authorities.
That is why Minister for Water Resources Colonel Zahid Farooq and other officials of the ministry are coming to inspect the coastal damaged dam on Wednesday.”
Md. Mamunur Rashid and Md. Nahiduzzaman Khan were accompanied by Mongla upazila Chairman Abu Taher Hawlader, Vice Chairman Iqbal Hossain, UNO Md. Rahat Mannan, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nayan Kumar Rajbangshi, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Nahiduzzaman, Chandpai UP Chairman Mollah Tariqul Islam and local UP member Md. Selim.
