Squadron Leader Muhammad Asim Jawwad’s funeral parade and second namaz-e-janaza were held on Friday at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Bashar in Dhaka Cantonment. He was given a guard of honour there.
On behalf of the Army Chief, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Waker-Uz-Zaman, on behalf of the Air Chief, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Operations) Air Vice Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, and on behalf of the Navy Chief, Commander Dhaka Naval Area, Rear Admiral Masud Iqbal paid respects by placing wreaths on the deceased’s coffin
Besides, the family members of Squadron Leader Asim Jawwad, senior military officers and other dignitaries were present.
At the end of the funeral parade, Asim Jawwad was taken to his hometown in Manikganj.
Around 12:00 pm, an Air Force helicopter carrying the body of the deceased landed at Shaheed Miraj–Tapan Stadium in Manikganj.
Asim Jawwad’s body was accompanied by his father, Dr Mohammad Amanullah, his wife, Antara
Akter and two children in the helicopter.
After some time, Air Force personnel brought down the coffin from the helicopter. Relatives, including mother Nilufa Akter Khanom, burst into tears after seeing the body of Asim Jawwad.
People from various walks of life, including his relatives, began to throng the stadium since morning to have a last look at the deceased pilot.
Later, his third namaz-e-janaza was held in Shaheed Miraj–Tapan Stadium at around 2.30 pm. Thousands of people in the district participated in the namaz-e-janaza.
After the janaza, the body of pilot Asim Jawwad is being taken to Sewta Graveyard in the Manikganj district town.
He was buried there with state honours in the grave of his grandfather Kofiluddin.
The deceased Asim Jawwad’s village home is in Gopalpur village of Dorgram union of Saturia upazila of Manikganj.
Mentionable that the first namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was held at the parade ground of Bangladesh Air Force Base Zahurul Haque in Chattogram.
On Thursday, the training aircraft took off from the BAF Base Zahurul Haque in Chattogram around 10:25am as part of regular training. It met the accident due to technical glitches while returning to the base after the training session.
After the plane caught fire, the two pilots manoeuvred the plane from a densely populated area to a sparsely populated area with great courage and skill to avoid major damage, ISPR said.
Asim Jawwad and his Co-pilot Wing Commander Sohan Hasan Khan were injured after a trainer fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force YAK-130 crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Patenga of Chattogram on Thursday.
They were rescued and taken to the Navy hospital BNS Patenga where Squadron Leader Asim Jawwad died while undergoing treatment.
