Commercial vehicle, two wheeler-three wheeler renewal fee should be reduced. Due to high fees, people are reluctant to renew their documents and driving vehicles illegally. As a result, the government is losing huge revenue from here.

On the other hand, Government policy support is needed to encourage people to use electric vehicles in the country. Electric vehicles are environmentally friendly, do not emit carbon. But due to its high price people do not want to buy them. In this case, (if necessary) subsidies for electric cars can be given like India and China.

Bangladesh Automobiles Assemblers and Manufacturers Association (BAAMA) Abdul Matlub Ahmad came up with such demands in a press conference after the 28th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the organization held at a city hotel on Saturday.

BAAMA vice-president Taskin Ahmed and Hafizur Rahman Khan, general secretary Mohammad Ali Din, executive member Humayun Rashid, Kazi Emdad Hossain also spoke during the conference.

The president of the organization urged to waive the fines levied by the government for late renewal of all types of vehicles from January to June.

About the battery run vehicles he said, “The government needs to give policy regarding battery powered three wheelers. A clear decision on whether these three wheelers will be closed or open should be given quickly.

Now three wheelers are still plying illegally after the government decision, so many accidents are happening and every year the government is losing a lot of revenue from this sector.”

Mentioning development work needs heavy vehicles support he added that multi axle trucks are known for road safety. People are not buying multi-axle trucks due to double to triple duty. Keeping in mind road safety and ease of purchase for people, duty on multi-axle trucks needs to be reduced.

While talking about the vehicles economic life Abdul Matlub Ahmad said, “Life time policy of buses, trucks and three wheelers should be strictly followed. Only in Dhaka and Chattogram, life time of a vehicle is followed but this is not followed in other cities. This should be monitored strictly.

Besides he urged to take effective measures to supply sulfur free diesel for vehicles safety.
