Rafiqul Islam Azad of Daily Independent and Reaz Chowdhury of Asianmail24.com have been elected as president and general secretary respectively of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU).
DRU members on Saturday gave their franchise to elect the executive committee for 2020. The voting took place at DRU’s Segunbagicha office premises in the capital from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some 1,329, among 1635, voters cast their votes in the election.
For the president post, Rafiqul Islam Azad bagged 550 votes while his nearest contestant Shahnewaz Dulal got 489 votes.
Besides, Reaz Chowdhury was elected general secretary bagging 567 votes while his nearest contender Nurul Islam Hasib secured 565 votes.
Nazrul Kabir was elected as vice-president bagging 488 votes while Helimul Alam Biplob of Daily Star became joint secretary bagging 851 votes
Other elected office bearers are financial secretary Ziaul Kabir Sumon (unopposed), organising secretary Habibur Rahman (648 votes), office secretary Jafor Iqbal (645 votes), women affairs secretary Rita Nahar (unopposed), publicity and publications secretary Maidur Rahman Rubel of RTV (643 votes), ICT and research secretary Sakhawat Hossain Supan (696 votes), sports secretary Mujibur Rahman (703 votes), cultural secretary Mizan Chowdhury (665), entertainment secretary Akhtar Hossain (unopposed) and welfare secretary Khalid Saifullah (unopposed).
Elected executive members are Mainul Ahsan, SM Mizan, Ahmed Mushfika Nazneen, Kamrjjanan Bablu, Md Imran Hasan Majumder, M Murad Hossain and Sayeed Abdul Malik.
